Do whales sink to the bottom of the ocean when they pass away?

    No. the whale carcass usually floats to the surface.  Then a lot of animals just eat it, and pick it away.

    Whales float and become easy food for other animals when they die. Occasionally they become problematic for people when they wash up on shore, they are quite smelly and difficult to transport to a dump.  Recently in San Diego a dead whale washed up and rather than attempting to lift it off the beach and take it to a dump, they dragged it back out to shore.  I think once enough of the meat is eaten off the bones the whale carcass will sink.
