There are stories floating around about incidents where whales will attack boats, though not all whales are out to get any boat the see. Since whales roam as they will, they don’t tend to get territorial. But if one whale displays behavior the other whale dislikes, they will try and chase the other whale off by slapping the water above the whale with fins, tails, and flippers. If the whale feels threatened, it launches an all-out attack, and that’s what I think happens when a whale attacks a boat roughly its size. It feels threatened by the thing it perceives and tries to make it go away with force.
