Do we water any crops using desalination?

Yes, we do! There are many ways to acquire water for the irrigation of crops, which include water from the ocean or water from deep groundwater aquifers. Should such a large-scale desalinating project on ocean water would emit a large value of carbon greenhouse gas emissions. Since the process requires a huge amount of energy, mostly powered by carbon fuels, it would not help curb greenhouse gas emissions. The issue of redepositing salt into the ocean is not a problem at all, and has been done in the past for other desalinating projects.
