In terms of gas, more oil is used in the summer. Gas prices also rise right around Memorial Day. The reason for this rise is higher demand, because people travel more in the summer. Another reason the prices rise is because energy companies conduct maitenance on refineries in the spring, which slows production to a halt. Interestingly enough, gasoline itself is actually more expensive to produce in the summer months in order to reduce smog and pollution during times of high temperatures.
