Yes. But the redwoods that are logged come from private lands that have already been harvested (even “old growth” redwood). Over 95 percent of ancient coast redwood parks are in protected redwood forests.
Yes, redwoods are still a good source of raw wood material that is particularly suited for outdoor applications and the the foundations of homes because the wood resists warping, is insect resistant, and highly durable. Conceivably, due to modern logging practices, most new redwood comes from well managed forests, and the large trees that have become so iconic in the West Coast are not cut down.
