No, we import a lot of bananas to the US.  Our climate is not quite suited for bananas, therefore they are mainly grown in hotter climates in Asia or South America.  The world’s leader in banana production is India, producing 11 million metric tons a year.

Data is from 2000 banana harvests.

The United States isn’t even on the list of the top 20 banana producing nations. According to a survey conducted in 2007, India is the number one producing 21.77 million metric tons of bananas, followed by China with 8.04 million metric tons and the Philippines with 7.48 million metric tons. The United States alongside the European Union are one of the dominant importers of bananas in the world.
