Do we need different types of fire extinguishers for different types of fires?

Good question, prince.  Well, it sort of depends on who the “we” in your question is.  There are six different classes for fires, and not every fire extinguisher will put out every type of fire.  So, the simple answer is yes, different types of extinguishers are necessary to put out different types of fires.  As far as what is in households, though, an extinguisher that is able to put out class A, B, and C fires is most common.

Yes, grease fires, for example, are very different from paper fires. You can put out a paper fire with water but not a grease fire. That example illustrates that the two types of fires are different and accordingly, so are their respective fire extinguishers.
