Yes, we can make biodegradable/compost-able plastic products out of corn derivatives. Many coffee shops are beginning to offer their drinks in biodegradable plastic cups, and some grocery stores are offering biodegradable plastic bags.
It is still much more environmentally friendly to just bring your own reusable bags. Production of plastic, even biodegradable plastic, creates pollution and waste. By reusing bags you can completely negate those emissions for yourself and your personal carbon footprint.
