Do we import a lot of our lumber for building?

We do. The United States cannot produce enough softwood lumber to meet our domestic demands. We subsequently import a whole lot of it from Canada. In fact, Canada supplies over 1/3 of the United States’ softwood lumber. Softwood lumber is used for building, and as construction is a prominent part of our local and national economy; it’s important economically that we maintain that trade relationship.
