Botox is a neurotoxic protein that is derived from the bacterium ‘Clostridium botulinum.’ It is commonly found in many natural environments. It has a paralyzing affect on organic tissues, paralyzing the muscles so they cannot move, which is why it tightens and firms. It was first discovered in the early nineteenth century but has only recently been applied to medical procedures.
Botox is generally manufactured in laboratories, which probably derive it from bacteria cultures that produce it. In the US, Botox is manufactured by Allergan, Inc.
