Some banana farming is occurring in Hawaii, although nowhere near on as large a scale as in Central and South America. In 2001, Hawaii produced 14,000 tons of bananas. A minimal amount of bananas are produced in Florida and California.
Although we don’t even make a dent in the internatinoal banana market, the US does produce a little domestically. Hawaii has the bulk share and produces around 15 to 20 million pounds of the fruit each year, 20.9 million in 2005. Florida and Southern California also grow a minimal amount of bananas each year.
