After the rain falls to the ground, it sinks into the earth, purifying itself by filtering through soil and clay in the process of sinking down far enough that it reaches an underground spring or aquifer.
People can also harvest rainwater for household use with receptacles that catch water that runs off the roof, etc. This runoff can then be put through a simple purification system to make it safe for drinking.
