Not accounting for quail consumption by hunters, the game bird industry breeds and raises up to 37 million quail a year. They sell these quail to restaurants and markets that make them available to consumers. A cooked quail renders about 5 ounces of meat on average. If we assume that 90% of those 37 million quail are eaten by Americans each year, we then consume upwards of 10.7 million pounds of quail annually.
