Do we drill for oil in Alaska?

Yes. We currently get about 720,000 barrels of oil per day out of Alaska, the most of any state except California. The controversy over Alaskan drilling concerns opening protected lands to drilling.

The figures quoted are out of date. As of summer 2010, Louisiana is the #1 oil producing state, followed in order by Texas, California, Alaska, and North Dakota. Drilling continues, but it is mostly field development, not wildcat exploration.
