Do we cut down a lot of trees to make toothpicks?

Yes. Many thousands of trees are cut down every year to supply toothpicks. Almost all toothpicks are made from the wood of birch trees. Realistically, it is impossible to use recycled wood to produce toothpicks. Adding to their impact is the fact that they are generally only used once and then discarded. From an environmental standpoint, toothpicks are exponentially more costly than they are beneficial.
