Water naturally has a pH balance of around 7, making it neutral. This is why it is so conducive to life. However, the pH of water can be changed. Not only does water pollution change the pH of water, but so does air pollution as it enters the atmosphere and the Water Cycle. Fertilizer run-off, nuclear water and industrial wastes all can alter the pH balance of water as can acid rain, another product of pollution.
