Do volcanoes destroy everything in their path?

    Basically, yes.
    The Mount St. Helens eruption in 1980 wasn’t the kind that spews magma into the air, but the aftermath was still pretty extreme. President Carter said that said that the blast area looked more like a moon landscape. Now, almost 30 years later, the park around Mount St. Helens has only sparse vegetation, and debris from the destroyed forests still clog parts of Spirit Lake.

    Also, check out these photos (the 2nd link) of an aerieal view of an eruption in Russia. It gives you a pretty good idea of how powerful eruptions can be.
