Turtles’ hibernation process is typically called “brumate” but both terms are used. Different turtles hibernate in different ways while some do no brumate at all since their habitat may have a warm enough temperature during the winter. Water turtles will dive down to the bottom of the waterbody and into the mud and debris and bury themselves until temperatures change. Land turtles will dig a deep burrow and also bury themselves in hopes of not being found by predators.
