Do turtles and other creatures that are having gender problems due to pollutants still serve the same purpose in the environment? Like, is the problem just that there are more than one sex of the animals?

The pollutants which cause gender problems (especially in amphibious creatures) cause an imbalance in the ratio of male to female in a particular population. The reason why this is particularly upsetting is that if this phenomena is occurring in other animals, it could also occur in humans.
