Some turtles do, for example the Horsfields tortoise in Kazakhstan can stay underground dormant for 9 months out of the year. Most reptiles who do hibernate do so because of weather reason (cold weather) or due to scarcity of food. More information about hibernating turtles can be found below.
Some species of turtle do hibernate. It is common for reptiles that live in climates where the weather turns cold or food sources dwindle in the winter to hibernate. The hibernation process allows the turtles to go long periods of time without feeding, and they can keep themselves warm by staying underwater or underground.
