Tiger litters can include one to seven cubs. Most tigers give birth to two or four cubs in a litter. Litters are usually two to three years apart.
The average size of a litter of a tiger tends to be around 2 to 3 cubs.
The gestation period of female tigers is 16 weeks, producing a litter between 3-4 cubs weighing about 1 kilogram. They are born blind and helpless with the females rearing them along. Mortality rate of tiger cubs is fairly high, with half not surviving to be more than 2 years old. Males will sometimes try to kill tiger cubs in order to make the female receptive again.
