Bleaching your teeth will cause a certain degree of sensitivity, especially to cold and hot things, but there should not be any lasting damage to your teeth.
The teeth-whitening bleaching process uses a peroxide-based compound of varying strength (3%-30% peroxide). The higher the concentration of peroxide in the compound, the more powerful the bleaching compound is, and the greater potential to cause damage to the surrounding gum tissue and your lips. Home whitening solutions that use a 10% carbamide peroxide concentration have been found to do significantly less damage. The chances of developing side effects is greatly decreased, but not zero.
