The Environmental Protection Agency, in conjunction with the Department of Energy, developed the Energy Star system to recognize electronics- and appliances-makers taking strides to become more and more energy efficient. Product makers must meet the guidelines put forth in order to use the Energy Star label, which tells the consumer that the product is effective at conserving energy. They also rate water heaters, lighting systems, furnaces, etc. You can explore Energy Star products on their Web site.
