Like most birds, the Stellar jay will only use its nest for nesting purposes, and not to store foods. They have been known to bury acorns one at a time during the winter to store them away until later. One reason they do not use their nest to store food is that they are notorious nest robbers for any other unattended nests they may find. So instead of hiding them in their nest, if they really need to store food, they are more likely to bury it.
