Yes, when stars burn through their avialable Hydrogen supplies for fuel, they face three scenarios. Some simply contract on themselves, creating what are known as White Dwarf stars. The other two are star explosions. In supernovas, stars explode, releasing all of their energy and releasing all rays of light, from x rays to gamma rays. These can destroy entire planets if they are to close to them. the third is when a massive star collapses in on itself creating a black hole. This happens when a star is so massive that it actually implode, creating as many scientists believe, a rip in space time that allows for time travel or multidimensional travel.
