Do spiders have good eyesight?

This depends on the species of spider in question. The majority of spider species do not have very good eyesight; they rely on other senses to capture food, or depend on their webs to trap small insects (vibrations on the web alert them to the fact that an insect has been caught). There are some groups of spiders with very good eyesight, however. These tend to be spiders that actively hunt down and pursue their prey, such as wolf and jumping spiders. Jumping spiders may be the most visually alert to their surroundings of all; if you pass your hand above one of these spiders, chances are you’ll be able to see it react as it scurries away from the perceived danger.
