Do solar water heaters take longer to head up the water?

One of the downfalls with solar water heaters is that they are dependent on the amount of sunlight available to heat the water. For this reason, many systems have a back up heater in place should the amount of sunlight available not be sufficient enough to heat the desired amount of water as it is needed. However, in general, solar water heaters can provide a greater quantity of heated water for a longer period of time than conventional water heaters.
