Do snakes bite when they are submerged in water?

Water snakes can bite while they are in the water.  A water snakes diet typically consists of frogs, fish, turtles, and other small creatures that reside in a swampy, wet environment.  The Water Moccasin, also known as the Cottonmouth, is the only venomous water snake in North America.  This snake will typically only bite if it feels there is no escape from an intruder.
