Do saint Bernard’s have more saliva glands than other dogs?

    Not really. Saint Bernards are known as heavy droolers because of the way their lips are shaped. Rather than snapping up tight like a human’s lips or even a labrador’s or golden retriever’s, they sort of just hang open. Saint Bernards are not alone in this, though; other large breeds, such as mastiffs and bulldogs, have the same problem.

    Some people resort to clipping their dog’s saliva glands as a mean to stop them from drooling, but DON’T DO THIS. It is actually very dangerous for the dog, as salivating is one of their main mechanisms for cooling themselves down. Dogs, don’t sweat, as you may know. To cool themselves, dogs will pant and salivate heavily.
