Do rattlesnakes like water?

It is difficult to say if rattlesnakes like water, but they are good swimmers and will readily take to water to pursue food, mates, refuge, or to escape harassment. They may also seek out water to cool off as they do not have any cooling receptors and can be susceptible to heat stroke if in the sun for too long.

Yes, they do. One camping website says that “rattlesnakes and rocks, and rattlesnakes and water go hand in hand”.

There are no indications that rattlesnakes particularly like swimming or being in the water (although they certainly can swim if the opportunity presents itself), but what this quote really refers to is the tendency of rattlesnakes to live (and hide) near water in the pursuit of the prey that must habitually comes to bodies of water to drink.
