Plankton are found in most bodies of water. They are often seeded in ponds and lakes by wading birds, turtles or even by the wind. Ponds vary greatly in soil types and water sources, so different types of plankton are suitable for each environment. Most freshwater plankton consist of protozoa, rotifers, capepods or cladocerans.
