How long plums last depend on how ripe they were when initially bought. Usually, most produce can last up to one week. Plums in particular should be layed out in a bowl at room tempurature to ripen. Once they are ripe, they can be stored in a plastic bag and refrigerated.
If you freeze them, plums can last for up to 6 months. If ripe, they can last for two weeks in the fridge. Just make sure to keep them in air-tight containers.
Plums can last even longer if you turn them into prunes! The easiest way is probably with a dehydrator, but if you don’t have one of those or want to try something new, you can also dry them using the lowest setting on your conventional oven.
Make sure you have fresh, ripe fruit. Wash and crack the skins by placing into boiling water for one minute, removing and then dousing in cold water. Pre-treat the plums with a reduced honey mixture to prevent discoloration and then place in your oven in a single layer at the lowest possible setting. Drying may take up to 12 hours so be aware you probably won’t be able to eat your prunes the same day.
