Do plastic bottles break down faster than plastic bags in landfills?

Plastic bags are estimated to take a whopping 1,000 years or more to decompose. Plastic bags haven’t been around for very long though, so there is no firsthand evidence of the actual degradation rate. Some sources go with a 500-year estimate, while others prefer the conservative 1000-year period. Plastic bottles, on the other hand, are estimated to take at least 450 years to break down in a landfill.
