Do plains animals work together to stay safe?

Prairie dogs are a good example of animals that work together to stay safe. Black-tailed prairie dogs are the only prairie dogs that live on the Great Plains, and they live in large colonies. Each day, certain prairie dogs are set on guard duty, to watch out for predators and to alert the rest of their colony if they see one. While the other prairie dogs are foraging for food or expanding the underground tunnels, there are sentinel dogs that yip when they spot danger. The other prairie dogs promptly pop underground when they hear this warning, thus helping to keep the colony safe.
