Phones don’t seem to be the most popular thing to make out of recyclables right now, but models do exist. If Nokia’s concept phone the “Remade” is ever actually made, it will be one such example. Its materials include aluminum and plastic from old bottles and rubber from car mats. It would also be energy-efficient and use non-toxic chemicals. This proves that the idea is valid, but perhaps there needs to be more demand for it.
ReCellular and other similar companies take it one step further: they collect used phones from owners who don’t want them anymore, refurbish them, and resell them to people who need phones. Since reusing is even more energy-efficient than recycling, this is a truly green idea.
