People in other countries do pay more for water than we do in the United States. In 2008 Germany had the highest rates at almost 4 times the cost of water in the U.S.A. Similarly more expensive is Australia, understandably so due to the extremely dry conditions throughout much of the country. In other nations throughout the world (India for example), distribution of water is privatized which can also result in higher prices since individual companies set prices and take aim at turning a profit instead of municipalities.
