Yes, some people do eat sea turtle but its meat has been shown to contain toxins absorbed from the ocean so eating it is potentially hazardous.
While some sea turtles do find their way into butchers and markets, they are protected animals and it is illegal to hunt sea turtles or even not take necessary precautions to avoid catching them accidentally in shrimp nets.
Island inhabitants, tribes, indigenous peoples, etc… still hunt sea turtles as primary sources of nutrients and protein. This has been practice for generations.
