Of course, although the United Nations isn’t necessarily known for the scientific data that it produces. The National Science Foundation, the Smithsonian Research Institute, universities, national laboratories, etc. are more well known for producing the research on which we rely for revolutionizing thought, at least in this country. The UN employs a wide range of scientists, but the following is from their own website regarding their objectives and motivations:

“The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 after the Second World War by 51 countries committed to maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations and promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights.”
