Do pennies rust?

    Pennies do rust.  If pennies are left in water long enough or exposed to rough conditions they will eventually start to turn green and oxidize.  This is just like the copper used to make the Statue of Liberty.  It is considered to be rusted because of the green oxidized appearance.
