Do pawn shops help people recycle old things?

Pawn shops are a great way to reuse old things rather than sending them to either landfills or recycling facilities. While recycling is generally better for the environment than throwing things away, reusing is even better than recycling. Items can be utilized in their present state without additional inputs of energy when sold from a pawn shop whereas recycling efforts can take significant amounts of energy to transform a product from its initial intended use to a new one. Pawn shops help to create a market for the reuse of goods and products from people who may otherwise have no means of contacting potential takers on their no-longer-needed goods.
