Pandas are primarily herbivores, feeding chiefly on bamboo, although they will consume fish and eggs if available. Pandas have not been known to cannibalize their young (as have rabbits, pigs, sharks, and some birds). Pandas have been known, however, to abandon one of their offspring in the case of twins.
Although infanticide is common among mammals, Pandas have not been observed practicing it. They will, however, raise only one cub, no matter how many in the litter. The mother somehow decides which one is the most fit to survive, and leaves the rest behind to perish or survive on their own.
