Do other countries have larger landfills than we do here in America?

Unless you count the accidental landfill that has accumulated in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, no, other countries do not outdo the US in landfill size.  Overall, the US has some of the biggest landfills by far in the world.  Until it was closed in 2001, the Fresh Kills Landfill in New York used to be the largest in the world, covering 2,200 acres.  Puene Hills landfill near California is another American mammoth, coming in around 700 acres – by comparison, Canada’s largest is about 270 acres.  The UK has some pretty infamous landfills as well, but they do not size up quite the same as ones in the States.
