Do offshore wind farms have to be in shallow water?

A normal wind turbine can only be built to a water depth of about 20-30 meters before it loses structural stability. However, there is also the possibility of floating wind turbines, which sit on floating platforms that are placed out at sea. Floating turbines can be placed in much deeper waters–up to 700 meters. Placing turbines in deeper waters is also more efficient as winds tend to be stronger father away from shore.
