Objects float better in salt water. The reason things float on top of water is their density. If an object has a higher density than water (1.0 g/cm2), it sinks. Salt water has a density of 1.025g/cm2). Therefore, more objects (those with densitites between 1.0 and 1.025) will float in salt water, and objects in salt water will float at a higher point in relation to the surface of the water.
