Do nuclear reactors currently use fission or fusion?

They use nuclear fission, splitting an atom in two parts to generate power.  Some elements undergo spontaneous fission, like uranium, while others have to be induced, although both produce energy and radiation.  Fusion, which would require the combination of similar nuclei to form a heavier nucleus, has not yet been achieved for nuclear energy although researchers are working on it.
