Good question, serena. Yes, motion sensor lights save a lot of energy. By only turning a light one when it is necessary, the amount of energy the light uses throughout the day is significantly lower. You may be familiar with being told to turn lights off when you leave the room to conserve energy, and a motion sensor light does just that. By themselves, the amount of energy saved may not be significant, but if widely used, it adds up.

Some motion sensor lights use large floodlight bulbs. So they can run very hot and use a lot of energy when they are on. So an even better option is to use florescent motion sensor lights. Here are a few links to some.
