Do most birds pair for life?

It depends on what your definition of for life is. If you truly mean mating for life with one partner, very few birds fit into this category. The ones that do are the ones that die, as surviving ones will go find another mate for the next nesting season. Most pair bonds are formed for a season. Monogamous pairs are pairs that stay together throughout one mating cycle.
