This is a difficult question to answer. About 160 new species of fish in the ocean are identified every year. According to the Census of Marine Life predicts that 5,000 species of ocean creatures, including fish, have not been identified yet.
As buggirl said, this is a very difficult question to answer. My personal opinion is that there are a lot more fish living in coastal reefs that out in the depths. I feel like the deeper into the ocean you go, the harder it becomes for species to survive, so there must be fewer species in the deep ocean than anywhere else. That’s just my theory though.
