The Japanese Blue Crab (Portunus trituberculatus), also known as the Horse Crab, is the crab that is eaten most in the world. People eat 300,000 ton of this crab per year! The majority of Japanese Blue Crabs (98%) are caught off the coast of China. This is a different species than the Blue Crab (Callinectes sapidus) caught and eaten on the East Coast of the US.
