Do more hybrids use the carpool lane than cars with two or more people?

While I haven’t been able to find any research to confirm this, I suspect that carpool lanes are still mainly populated by those actually carpooling. Living in Northern California (possibly the hybrid capitol of America – they’re everywhere) it still seems as though most people in the carpool lanes are not driving hybrids, but just using the lane when there are the right number of passengers in the car.
